In My Shoes: Emily John
Today we are speaking to Emily John, the co-founder and Head of Marketing & Business Development at The Restory. Emily, Vanessa Jacobs and Thais Cipolletta brought The Restory to life in 2016 after a high street cobbler ruined a pair of Vanessa's favourite shoes. The Restory provides on-demand aftercare for luxury accessories worldwide, directly to customers and through their partnerships with Farfetch, Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. Investing in the next generation of artisans, this brilliant service offers everything from cleaning your favourite pair of leather sneakers to re-heeling and colour restoration. Tell us a little about you.
I live in north London with my rescue cat Oscar and my future husband. I love travelling, cooking and I'm a surfing novice. I am the Co-Founder of The Restory, where we're building the first global luxury aftercare brand. It's an exhilarating combination of hard work and fun to do what's never been done before.

How do you start your day?
Coffee first, always. It is a bit of a ritual for me and I genuinely look forward to it every day, nothing beats that first coffee.
What is your fashion philosophy?
Look after it and make it last. I have had some of my favourite things in my wardrobe for years, fashion can last but it does need care. Aftercare is integral whether you're looking after it for you, to pass on or to resell, or rent. It also helps you recognise the value of things and be more mindful to buy better.
Can you share your top tip? (fashion, styling, life, anything!)
Don't be afraid to admit what you don't know. Learning is such a source of inspiration for me and you can always learn more about yourself, learn from others, new skills, about the world, about how much is possible and how much can change.
What/who inspires you?
I am lucky enough to be surrounded by so many incredible people who inspire me. I would say a big inspiration for me is my mum. She inspired me from a young age to value my possessions and taught me the importance of looking after them and started my love of aftercare.

How do you unwind?
Yoga and wine - preferably not together! I love the ocean so I took up surfing a few years ago, which is a great way to switch off and ground yourself.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I love travelling so I have a very long list, mostly with sun, sea and sand. Next on my list is San Sebastian where we hope to go on our honeymoon.
Can you tell us something you discovered recently?
The magic of dyeing shoes! We recently launched our range of colours to dye existing satin shoes at The Restory, perfect for post-wedding. I can't wait to reimagine mine after the big day and have them live on in a new colour.
What is the best part of your work?
Our team, we have the most inspiring, creative mix of people that I feel lucky enough to work with. I also love being part of an all-female founder team, there's 3 of us and we are each very different which I see as one of our strengths.
Which (Rupert Sanderson) shoes do you love this season?
I love the Deidre, which also happens to be in green, my favourite colour! Those are definitely on my wishlist to wear once we’re allowed out to weddings and parties again this year.
